National Endowment for the Humanities - America's Media Makers

Grants for America's Media Makers support projects in the humanities that explore stories, ideas, and beliefs in order to deepen our understanding of our lives and our world. The Division of Public Programs supports the development of humanities content and interactivity that excite, inform, and stir thoughtful reflection upon culture, identity, and history in creative and new ways. Grants for America's Media Makers should encourage dialogue, discussion, and civic engagement, and they should foster learning among people of all ages. To that end, the Division of Public Programs urges applicants to consider more than one format for presenting humanities ideas to the public.

NEH offers two categories of grants for media projects, development grants and production grants:

Development grants enable media producers to collaborate with scholars to develop humanities content and format and to prepare programs for production. Development grants should culminate in the refinement of a project's humanities ideas, a script, or a design document for (or a prototype of) digital media components or projects, or a prototype for a digital media project together with a detailed plan for outreach and public engagement in collaboration with partner organizations.

Production grants support the preparation of a program for distribution. Applicants must submit a script for a radio or television program, or a prototype or storyboard for a digital media project, that demonstrates a solid command of the humanities ideas and scholarship related to a subject. The script for a radio or television program, or prototype or storyboard for a digital media project, must also show how the narrative elements, visual approach, and interactive design combine to present the project's humanities ideas. Applicants must have consulted with appropriate scholars about the project and obtained their commitment as advisers. Finally, applicants must have recruited the media team, including at a minimum the producer, director, writer, and, for a digital media project, the interactive designer.

Deadline: Jan 12, 2011

The Community Catalyst Fund

New fund offers grants to groups working on energy, sustainability

Connecticut, New Jersey and New York

Clean Air-Cool Planet is excited to announce that community groups seeking support for energy-, sustainability- and climate-related projects have a new source of funding.

The Community Catalyst Fund is offering grants of $250 to $2500. Please pass along the information that to apply, people should visit http://www.cleanair-coolplanet.org/smallgrants/index.php.

We’ve learned that, too often, groups of citizens with good ideas and the desire to make a difference reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in communities are stymied in their efforts for lack of a little money.

The goal of this new fund is to overcome those small financial hurdles, allowing groups to move forward with projects and programs that will bring much greater rewards to their communities.  We are very grateful to be able to do this with funding from The Overbrook Foundation.

The Community Catalyst Fund will accept applications from groups in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, focused on improving the environmental sustainability, health and economic well-being of their communities.

The Fund will consider projects aimed at energy use reduction, public engagement and the promotion of environmental stewardship, offering grants mainly in the $250 to $2,500 range per project. There are no deadlines for grant submission; proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis

The Fruition Coalition

The Fruition Coalition is issuing a Request for Proposals to organizations engaged in systems change work that are in need of developing a strategic plan. Strategic planning is a process through which an organization's leadership discusses and articulates its vision for the future and develops a concrete plan to achieve specific goals related to that vision. Strategic plans help organizations make the most of limited resources, focus attention on critical community needs, and rededicate staff, board, and other key stakeholders to the mission of the organization.

One organization will be chosen by a panel of three reviewers based on the criteria explained in the RFP. The Fruition Coalition will work with this organization to develop a strategic plan that meets their individual needs.

The RFP can be found online at http://fruition.weebly.com/requests-for-proposals.htmlThe deadline to apply is September 10, 2010 and organizations will be notified of the status of their proposal by October 15, 2010. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jessica Dreistadt at jessica@fruitioncoalition.com or call her at (610) 252-5362.

New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA)
Posted: 7/26/07

Summary:

The EDA is most often thought of as a vehicle to help businesses locate and expand in New Jersey. But the mission of this independent, self-supporting state agency also includes assistance to nonprofit organizations and institutions. In fact, the EDA's ability to provide financial resources through means such as bond financing is often critical to these nonprofit groups.

The EDA can issue bonds to help not-for-profits borrow money – usually $750,000 or more – on a long-term basis at favorable interest rates. Many EDA loan and loan guarantee programs can also provide nonprofits with access to low-cost capital that often makes the difference when they need to undertake projects that benefit their communities. Building a Solid America
MAS Epoxies

Posted: 7/26/05

Summary: "Building a Solid America" grants are awarded to organizations that carry on the rich tradition of boat building or wood working; or that have forward thinking vision in areas such as wind power generation, developing cars powered by alternative energy, or applications that use epoxy in ways MAS hasn't even thought of yet.

Details and applications : Awards are made on an ongoing basis and organizations are encouraged to submit an on-line application form at www.masepoxies.com.

Press Release:
CINNAMINSON, NEW JERSEY (July 25, 2005) - MAS Epoxies' new "Building a Solid America" program awards product grants to outstanding schools and non-profit organizations with a unique need for MAS' renowned epoxy resin.

"This grant supports organizations that teach people the value of teamwork, creative problem solving, and learning how to work with their hands," noted company founder JB Currell. "We're particularly interested in groups that reach young people."

The first "Building a Solid America" grant was awarded to Alexandria Seaport Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia for its Family Boatbuilding Program. During this program, hundreds of families work together in teams to learn practical boatbuilding and seamanship skills. Epoxy resin is a major component in boat construction and MAS supplied all the product needed.

"I've been building boats for 25 years and MAS is the only epoxy we use at Alexandria Seaport," said director Peter Youcha. "We use MAS because it's what I consider to be the friendliest epoxy on the market. It's easy to work with. We'd use MAS Epoxy regardless, so I'm particularly thrilled about this product grant because it really helps us keep our program costs down."

"Building a Solid America" grants are awarded to organizations that carry on the rich tradition of boat building or wood working; or that have forward thinking vision in areas such as wind power generation, developing cars powered by alternative energy, or applications that use epoxy in ways MAS hasn't even thought of yet.
