Capacity-Building Technical Assistance

Request for Proposals & Application

The combined RFP/application is available on the MONAC website. First round applications are due by June 15, 2008

Nonprofit organizations in Monmouth and Ocean Counties are invited to apply for one of several grants for capacity-building technical assistance.  The grants will underwrite the services of a consultant for a maximum of twenty hours or up to $2,000 of technical assistance for a period of time not to exceed five months. The consultant will assist in various areas of nonprofit management including, but not limited to, board development, fundraising, grant writing, financial management as well as staff and volunteer management.

This professional technical assistance is for capacity-building, not program development or program delivery. Awardees will be asked to participate in a pre- and post-needs assessment survey. Because collaboration of resources is a fundamental element of the NAC mission, special consideration will be given to proposals that include collaboration (a) between nonprofits or (b) between nonprofits and governmental entities. New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA)
Posted: 7/26/07

Summary:

The EDA is most often thought of as a vehicle to help businesses locate and expand in New Jersey. But the mission of this independent, self-supporting state agency also includes assistance to nonprofit organizations and institutions. In fact, the EDA's ability to provide financial resources through means such as bond financing is often critical to these nonprofit groups.

The EDA can issue bonds to help not-for-profits borrow money – usually $750,000 or more – on a long-term basis at favorable interest rates. Many EDA loan and loan guarantee programs can also provide nonprofits with access to low-cost capital that often makes the difference when they need to undertake projects that benefit their communities. Details and applications : Awards are made on an ongoing basis and organizations are encouraged to submit an on-line application form at www.masepoxies.com.

Press Release:
CINNAMINSON, NEW JERSEY (July 25, 2005) - MAS Epoxies' new "Building a Solid America" program awards product grants to outstanding schools and non-profit organizations with a unique need for MAS' renowned epoxy resin.

"This grant supports organizations that teach people the value of teamwork, creative problem solving, and learning how to work with their hands," noted company founder JB Currell. "We're particularly interested in groups that reach young people."

The first "Building a Solid America" grant was awarded to Alexandria Seaport Foundation in Alexandria, Virginia for its Family Boatbuilding Program. During this program, hundreds of families work together in teams to learn practical boatbuilding and seamanship skills. Epoxy resin is a major component in boat construction and MAS supplied all the product needed.

"I've been building boats for 25 years and MAS is the only epoxy we use at Alexandria Seaport," said director Peter Youcha. "We use MAS because it's what I consider to be the friendliest epoxy on the market. It's easy to work with. We'd use MAS Epoxy regardless, so I'm particularly thrilled about this product grant because it really helps us keep our program costs down."

"Building a Solid America" grants are awarded to organizations that carry on the rich tradition of boat building or wood working; or that have forward thinking vision in areas such as wind power generation, developing cars powered by alternative energy, or applications that use epoxy in ways MAS hasn't even thought of yet.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) is most often thought of as a vehicle to help businesses grow in New Jersey. But the mission of this independent, self-supporting state agency also includes assistance to non-profit organizations and institutions. In fact, the EDA's ability to provide financial assistance through its tax-exempt bond financing and low-interest loan and loan guarantee programs can be critical to 501(c)(3) non-profit groups, which often have limited financial resources.

Since the beginning of 2000, the EDA has provided in excess of $870 million in financing assistance to more than 220 nonprofit projects. This assistance has ranged from the nearly $96 million in bond financing provided to enable The Presbyterian Home at Montgomery, Inc. to build, equip and operate a continuing care retirement community in Somerset County to the $50,000 loan made to Housing and Neighborhood Development Services, Inc. to fund predevelopment expenses associated with this agency's plans to redevelop three industrial buildings in Orange.

In recent years, non-profit organizations that have benefited from EDA financing programs have included educational institutions, museums, historical societies, food banks, day care centers and a broad variety of other cultural, health care, recreational, social service and similar organizations.

The EDA may have just the right program to meet the needs of your non-profit organization.
